Getting married at Amerang Castle

Jede Hochzeit erzählt ihre eigene Geschichte. Wenn ihr möchtet, dass sie in Bildern und im Film genauso weiterlebt, meldet euch bei mir.
Who doesn’t have it: the childhood dream of celebrating their own wedding in a castle. Christoph and Sabine fulfilled exactly this dream. Their wedding at Amerang Castle near Lake Chiemsee was exactly what you would imagine a fairytale castle setting to be. And much more. Not only did I get to photograph the couple, but my team and I also got to make their wedding video. This way, we were able to capture this special day forever, not just in pictures, but also in moving moments.
Amerang Castle and Lake Chiemsee as a wedding backdrop
Amerang Castle dates back to the 11th century and is nestled in the rolling countryside around Lake Chiemsee. You can feel the history of this place as soon as you enter. The castle’s stud farm is also located directly adjacent to it. For horse owners like Sabine and me, this was of course an absolute highlight. This combination of historic architecture, nature, and horses makes Amerang Castle a wedding location that leaves nothing to be desired.
It was clear from the very first tour: there are plenty of motifs here. Old walls, lovely details, sweeping views, and ever-changing perspectives. It is precisely this diversity that makes wedding photos and videos here so vibrant. Every step reveals a new backdrop without having to change location.
Arriving and preparing
Since the journey to Lake Chiemsee is quite long and I always arrive at weddings well ahead of time, we traveled there the day before. I always make sure to use this time wisely. I take my time to look at the location, get a feel for the light at different times of day, and think about alternatives in case of rain or other unforeseen situations. This is extremely valuable, especially at a large wedding location like Amerang Castle – both for the photography and the wedding video.

Getting ready and the first quiet moments
The next morning, the wedding day started for me with Christoph and Sabine getting ready. For me, these hours are among the most important moments of the day. Everything is still calm, excitement is in the air, conversations are quiet, and glances are sincere. This is often where the first very emotional pictures and film scenes are created, which later form the framework for an authentic wedding reportage and a personal wedding video.
Emotional wedding ceremony at Seeon Monastery
The wedding ceremony took place at Seeon Monastery and was absolutely moving. A relative of the couple officiated as a clergyman, which gave the ceremony a very personal and intimate atmosphere. For me as a wedding photographer and Adriaan as a videographer, moments like these are priceless. Emotions that are not staged, but simply happen – and which unfold their full effect in both the pictures and the wedding video.

Celebrate, enjoy, and let the day come to an end
After the wedding ceremony, everyone returned to Amerang Castle, where coffee and cake were served in the castle gardens. A covered atrium is available for weddings there, which is not only practical but also architecturally beautiful. The food provided by Peppi Kalteis in the afternoon and evening was phenomenal and truly left nothing to be desired.
Together with the Isartones, we celebrated late into the night. Here, too, many lively scenes were captured for the wedding video: laughter, dancing, hugs, genuine moments. Afterwards, Christoph and Sabine were able to spend the night in their castle room. How often do you get the opportunity to wake up in historic surroundings after a lively wedding celebration?
An absolute dream wedding
For me, this wedding at Amerang Castle was one of the absolute highlights. It was a long, intense day that was exhausting but incredibly fulfilling. We had actually planned to take wedding photos with Sabine’s horses on that day. However, since the stalls at Amerang Castle were occupied, we made up for this heartfelt project later in an after-wedding shoot. Sometimes good things just take a little time. And that’s exactly what makes them so special in the end.
