Wedding photos at Lake Tegernsee

Sometimes the most beautiful weddings happen unplanned. If you’d like to preserve your story in photos and a wedding film, feel free to reach out.
Not every wedding goes exactly as originally planned. And sometimes, that’s when the most beautiful stories are born. That’s exactly what happened with Michaela and Thomas. The plan was a big wedding at Lake Starnberg, with many guests, a fixed timeline, and a long summer weekend full of celebrating together. But like so many couples, they suddenly faced a cancellation. Because of Covid, the venue felt uncertain and pulled out last minute.
What first felt like a setback quickly turned into a new idea. Michaela and Thomas chose to pivot on purpose. Instead of a Saturday with a big crowd, they picked a weekday. Instead of lots of guests, only their closest family and best friends. And instead of Lake Starnberg, they chose Lake Tegernsee. Looking back, it felt like exactly the right decision.
The beautiful surroundings of Lake Tegernsee
Lake Tegernsee has this special mix of calm, open space, and mountain views that instantly slows you down. Especially for smaller weddings, it offers a setting that allows closeness without giving up the scenery. The Tegernsee registry office is central, and still right by the water. Even the walk there feels like arriving.
Michaela and Thomas quickly knew they wanted to get married here. Not loud, not staged, but personal. A wedding at Lake Tegernsee is perfect for couples who value real moments and prefer fewer planned highlights, but more time for each other.
A first look right by the lake
We started with a first look right on the shore of Lake Tegernsee. Before heading to the registry office, they intentionally took this moment just for themselves. When Michaela and Thomas saw each other, you could immediately feel the nerves. That’s exactly what I love about first look sessions. No distractions, no audience, just that one moment.
In this setting at Lake Tegernsee, everything feels even more intense. Nature gives you space without stealing the spotlight. For wedding photos, it doesn’t get much better than that.

A special moment before the ceremony
Just before the ceremony came another emotional highlight. Michaela’s dad officially “gave her away” to Thomas. A quiet, deeply personal moment that showed once again how intentionally intimate this wedding was meant to be. Especially at civil weddings at Lake Tegernsee, moments like these are often the ones that stay with you.
The registry office with views of the lake and mountains
The ceremony at the Tegernsee registry office was calm, warm, and full of honest emotion. Afterwards, we stepped out onto the balcony, where the view opens wide across the lake and the landscape. Water, mountains, and sky create a backdrop that almost feels unreal. For a wedding photographer, this place is a gift.
We took more couple photos there, relaxed and without any time pressure. That’s one of the biggest advantages of small weddings: there’s space for real moments.

Soap bubbles, congratulations, and a celebration in Bad Wiessee
As they walked out of the registry office, Michaela and Thomas were greeted by their friends with an arch of bubbles. After that came family photos and group shots before everyone headed to the celebration. They celebrated at Freihaus Brenner in Bad Wiessee, a venue that fit the character of this wedding perfectly: warm, elevated, and beautifully understated.
Looking back, this wedding at Lake Tegernsee was a wonderful reminder that less is often more. Dreamy weather, special places, the people who truly matter, and a relaxed atmosphere. Thank you for your trust, and for letting me accompany you with photos and a wedding film. Sometimes a change of plans leads you exactly where you were meant to be.
