Getting Married in Copenhagen with Scandinavian Charm

When I saw them again on their wedding day in Copenhagen, that familiar feeling came flooding back immediately. We had already met during their wonderful maternity photo shoot in Garmisch am Geroldsee. Back then, it was all about the anticipation of new life – this time, it was about saying “I do.” About a decision that officially turns two people into a family once and for all.
I was deeply touched that they booked me on such short notice for their wedding in Copenhagen. It’s always special when couples don’t just let me into a single moment of their lives, but when I get to accompany them through several important milestones. That’s exactly why days like these don’t feel like a job, but like a reunion with people whose story I get to experience firsthand.

Getting Married in Copenhagen: When Love Goes Its Own Way
The decision to choose Copenhagen wasn’t just romantic—it was also a very deliberate one. If both partners aren’t from Europe, a civil marriage can sometimes be more complicated than you’d like. Lots of forms, lots of questions, lots of procedures you have to figure out first. It is precisely because of its simplicity that Copenhagen is an ideal location for many international couples. If you want to know more, you can check this out: There’s a dedicated page explaining how a wedding in Copenhagen works.
And perhaps that’s exactly what makes it so beautiful: Love doesn’t have to prove itself any more just because the bureaucratic path is sometimes more difficult. It needs a place where two people can simply say “I do.” For this couple, Copenhagen was exactly that place.

A civil wedding ceremony at the historic City Hall
The ceremony took place with just a very small group of people. No large gathering – just the people who truly mattered. That’s precisely what gave the moment such incredible power. You could sense that nothing was done for anyone else. This day belonged only to them.
Copenhagen City Hall provided a beautiful backdrop for the occasion. The historic rooms, the high walls, the fine details – everything felt dignified yet approachable. It’s one of those places where you automatically pause for a moment because you realize: something is happening here that will last.
As the two stood facing each other, there was this mix of excitement, love, and relief. That little smile when you’re trying to sort through your own feelings. The look that says: We’re really here. We’re doing this now. It’s moments like these that make a wedding unforgettable.

Wedding Photos in the Alleys of Copenhagen
After saying “I do,” we wandered together through the alleys of Copenhagen. The city didn’t greet us with bright sunshine that day, but with fog, a light drizzle, and gray skies. And yet, it couldn’t have been more perfect.
The wet cobblestones reflected the light, the facades looked even more striking, and an atmosphere surrounded the couple that gave the photos an incredibly authentic feel. Nothing was perfectly polished. Nothing was staged. It was simply their day – with everything that goes with it.
My couples often think that wedding photos can only really turn out well in nice weather. But this day showed once again just how much emotion lies in the unplanned moments. A quick glance from under the collar of a coat. Hands holding each other tighter because it’s chilly. A laugh, even as the rain slowly gets heavier. That’s exactly what creates memories you can’t replace.

A Destination Wedding Full of Intimacy
This destination wedding in Copenhagen wasn’t grand in the traditional sense. But it was grand in everything that truly matters. In the looks they shared. In the touches. In the way the two of them treated each other. Love often isn’t shown in the loudest moments, but in the small gestures in between.
For me as a photographer, it is precisely these moments that are especially precious. When a couple forgets for a moment that a camera is there. When nervousness suddenly turns into laughter. When, after the ceremony, that special sense of relief sets in and both realize: We did it. We’re married.
Copenhagen was a wonderful backdrop for this day. The city wasn’t just a setting, but part of the story. The old buildings, the narrow streets, the soft light, and the weather, which gave the whole thing an almost cinematic atmosphere. It was a wedding day that didn’t try to be perfect – and that’s exactly why it was so touching.
When a photo shoot becomes a shared story
What really touched me about this wedding in Copenhagen was the journey leading up to it. First came the maternity shoot, then the news that they wanted to have a civil ceremony, and finally this special day together in Denmark. It’s a huge privilege to be allowed to be part of such personal moments.
Stories like these always remind me why I love weddings so much. It’s not just about beautiful pictures. It’s about capturing memories that will still be felt later on. Pictures where you don’t just see what a day looked like, but feel what it was like all over again.
This wedding was exactly that kind of day. Foggy, drizzly, genuine, intimate, and full of love. A day that showed that it’s not about perfect conditions, but about the people experiencing it together. And about the feeling of being exactly where you belong in the end.
