Getting married at Munich City Hall

Are you planning your civil wedding at Munich City Hall or in the Small Council Chamber? Tell me about your ideas.
A wedding is a truly special day, filled with unique moments. This wedding at Munich City Hall was exactly that, shaped by historic rooms, an urban vibe, and a beautiful celebration right in the middle of nature. From the first getting ready moments all the way to the party in the English Garden, it felt like one highlight after another.
Early in the morning, you could already feel that this day would be something special. The excitement, the quiet butterflies, and all the small details that make a wedding so unique were practically in the air.
Getting ready, a calm start to the wedding day
The day began with the couple’s getting ready. For me as a wedding photographer, this time is always especially valuable, because it’s where the first real, unstaged moments of the day happen. Before the buzz and the guests arrive, everything has its own calm.
The bride’s makeup by Angela Belaj perfectly highlighted her natural beauty. Nothing heavy or overdone, just a look that let her personality shine. Meanwhile, we captured lots of loving detail shots, from the jewelry to the final moments of getting dressed.
The groom also used this time to arrive and settle in on purpose. Moments like these show why getting ready matters so much in a wedding story. It’s often the quiet seconds that end up feeling the most emotional later on.

First look at Munich City Hall on Marienplatz
After getting ready came one of the most emotional moments of the day: the first look. At Munich City Hall, right on Marienplatz, the bride and groom saw each other for the first time on their wedding day. That moment is unique every single time.
The tension melts away, eyes meet, a smile, a hug, it all happens quietly, but with so much intensity. And in a place like City Hall, right in the heart of Munich, you get this special mix of closeness and an urban backdrop.
Civil ceremony in the Small Council Chamber at Munich City Hall
The civil ceremony took place in the Small Council Chamber at Munich City Hall. The room isn’t just rich in history, it’s also architecturally stunning. High ceilings, beautiful details, and a one-of-a-kind atmosphere make it one of the city’s most sought-after places to get married.
If you want to marry here, you need a bit of luck, because dates are assigned through a lottery system. That makes it even more special when you actually get to use this room for your own wedding.
The ceremony itself was personal and emotional. The registrar’s words, the looks the couple shared, and the closeness of their guests made it unforgettable. Moments like these prove that a civil wedding can feel anything but cold or formal.

Wedding photos on the balcony above Marienplatz
After the “I do,” another true highlight was waiting: wedding photos on the balcony above Marienplatz. The very same balcony where FC Bayern celebrates championships was, for a brief moment, all about love.
The view over Marienplatz, the lively city below, and that feeling of being right in the middle of Munich while still in your own little world, it’s such a unique setting. The photos reflect exactly that: joy, pride, and that special feeling of having just experienced something big.
Wedding celebration in the English Garden
After the ceremony, we headed to the English Garden. Moving from the historic backdrop of City Hall to the openness and calm of the park made the day feel wonderfully varied. Those contrasts are exactly what makes weddings in Munich so exciting.
The culinary highlight came from an exclusive catering by Wolfgang Weigler from Whowantsit. The food was a dream, not only in taste but also in presentation. The service was warm, attentive, and played a big part in keeping everything relaxed.
The floral design by Blumenstil Schwabhausen gave the celebration a warm, romantic feel. Everywhere you looked, there were thoughtful details that fit the couple’s style perfectly.

Party, cake, and the best energy
As the evening went on, a DJ kept the vibe high. There was dancing, laughter, and celebration, exactly the way you want it at a wedding. Another highlight was cutting the cake, featuring an exclusive wedding cake by Alexa von Harder.
From the first dance to the happiest moments on the dance floor, a wedding story came together that reflects the day in all its facets. The guests’ joy, the couple’s deep connection, and all the little details wove into one cohesive narrative.
A wedding you’ll remember
This wedding at Munich City Hall, with the ceremony in the Small Council Chamber and the celebration in the English Garden, was a day full of emotion, contrast, and real moments. It brought me so much joy to be part of it.
If you’re dreaming of a civil wedding in Munich that feels personal, emotional, and authentic, this day shows just how special and varied it can be. These are the stories I love most, weddings that aren’t just celebrated, but truly lived.
