Winter wedding in the Rocky Mountains

Träumt ihr von einer Destination Wedding in den USA? Ich begleite eure Hochzeit dort, wo eure Geschichte beginnt.
Some weddings stay in your heart forever. This winter wedding in Colorado is absolutely one of them for me, unforgettable in every way. Even now, I can still feel the atmosphere when I think of Emily and Leo, that dreamy winter day, and the incredible light in the Rocky Mountains.
I’ve been lucky enough to get to know many places in the US, and photographing a destination wedding here had always been a big dream. When that dream suddenly became real, after such a sweet video call filled with excitement and trust, I could hardly believe it. A winter wedding, right in the middle of the Rocky Mountains. A magical winter fairytale was waiting. And the fact that my husband also got to film the day made the trip even more intense and personal for both of us.
The trip to Colorado, stepping into another world
In February, our journey first took us to Denver. A day to arrive and acclimate before heading deeper into the Rocky Mountains. The endless space and that classic American vibe just hits differently, and Denver already gave us those first “jar moments,” the kind you want to bottle up and keep. The next morning, we drove over snowy mountain passes to Granby, about 8,000 feet up, into a winter landscape that felt almost unreal.
The drive through Colorado was unforgettable. Snow-covered forests, endless mountain ranges, and blue skies. When we finally arrived at Sun Outdoors Rocky Mountains, we were instantly enchanted. This was the perfect place for an emotional winter wedding.
A get-together and quiet anticipation before the big day
The evening before the ceremony, family and friends came together for a relaxed get-together. People from many different countries, all connected by their love and friendship for Emily and Leo. There was already so much laughter, so many hugs, so many toasts. A get-together is the perfect start to a wedding weekend and it builds excitement in the best way.
The wedding day itself began with perfect weather and the best energy. For getting ready, the bride and groom stayed in separate villas. For me, getting ready is one of the absolute highlights of a wedding. The details as everything comes together, the fun energy with friends and the wedding party, the first look with the bride’s dad, one last glance in the mirror. You can feel the nerves, and photos hold on to them forever.
First look and couple photos at Lake Granby
For the first look, we found a spot close to the venue. Snow, mountains, and perfect light. As Emily walked toward Leo, time seemed to stop for a moment. She looked like an ice princess. Leo was speechless, and there were definitely a few tears.
After that intense moment, we drove to Lake Granby together. The landscape there is truly one of a kind. The frozen lake, the powerful mountains behind it, the light soft and crisp. My heart jumped every time I looked through the viewfinder. In that moment, it went from “wedding day” to a true Colorado destination wedding.

A heartfelt ceremony full of closeness and honest words
Back at the venue, the ceremony was waiting, led by the couple’s two maids of honor. It couldn’t have felt more personal or intimate. Words that went straight to the heart, tears, genuine laughter, and that feeling of being part of something truly real.
The afternoon unfolded in a relaxed way with a champagne toast and family photos. Normally, winter here is bitterly cold, but that weekend Colorado treated us well. Sunshine and temperatures right around freezing, perfect conditions for a winter wedding in the Rocky Mountains.
A second look, snow underfoot, and warm evening light
Before dinner, Emily surprised everyone once more. Under the elegant skirt of her dress was a custom-made jumpsuit, tailored perfectly to her. Leo was speechless again during their second first look.
We headed outside one more time for sunset photos. The sun was exactly where we needed it for unforgettable images that will last forever. That mix of cold on your skin and warmth in your heart is what makes winter weddings in Colorado so special.

Dinner, speeches, and memories that stay with you
After emotional speeches from both dads and a tear-filled speech from the best man, everyone sat down for dinner together. The first dance was the next big highlight, followed by the traditional father-daughter dance, the perfect start to a long night of partying and unforgettable moments.
This winter wedding in the Rocky Mountains will stay with me for a long time. Because of the landscape, the people, the closeness, and the honest emotion. That’s exactly why I love destination weddings in Colorado.
